THE #1 INDUSTRIAL DEMOLITION CONTRACTOR FOR RICHMOND, VIRGINIA

Industrial demolition contractors in Richmond, Virginia, like Total Wrecking & Environmental, employ a complex, multi-phase process that extends far beyond the “demolition” itself. For some of the biggest nationwide demolition projects and demolition contractors in Richmond, Virginia, it can take many years to fully research and thoughtfully develop a scope for the demolition, decommissioning, asbestos abatement, environmental remediation, waste removal, asset recovery, recycling, waste management, and more that power plant closures, demolition and redevelopment projects require. If you thought the wrecking ball was the whole story, think again.

Total Wrecking ESTIMATING & SITE VISITS

ESTIMATING & SITE VISITS

Our most experienced and senior industrial demolition estimators will participate in a site walkthrough and detailed inspection that allows us to thoughtfully determine the demolition project’s scope. Facility size, environmental requirements, equipment, necessary subcontractors, and more will all be considered.

Combining and cross-referencing various on-site assessments, we’ll consider everyone’s input alongside the power plant’s historical document to make the most informed estimation possible. Along the way, our industrial demolition team members will be formulating a rough work plan that considers how each phase of the project will be carried out, along with rough completion dates, equipment needs, and other high level details.

DETAILED WORK PLAN AND CRITICAL PATH METHOD SCHEDULE

If our nationwide demolition bid has been accepted, we’ll proceed to develop a comprehensive and formalized work plan that provides in-depth details about the what, when, where, how, and why of each and every project task. Because each task is dependent on the progress or completion of others, there’s a careful and necessary order of things.

A critical path method schedule represents the shortest start to finish timeframe of the entire project in chronological order. Once a cohesive critical path method schedule has been established, separate work plans for individual project milestones will be developed in more detail.

MOBILIZATION, PROJECT ENABLEMENT & SITE PREPARATION

Once detailed work plans and a solid critical path method schedule are mutually agreed upon, the mobilization of crews and equipment will commence right away. This includes the movement of enormous machinery that requires a carefully-planned road map as well as housing for the crew who live nearby for the project’s duration.

On-site, we’ll begin the setup of equipment such as a perimeter fence, erosion control devices, sediment control devices, necessary permits, trailers, construction entrances, bathrooms, and anything else the project requires.

DECOMMISSIONING

Power plant decommissioning can be completed by industrial demolition contractors or the facility owners and their remaining crews. We believe it’s best managed by the facility’s management and maintenance teams simply because they’ll have extensive and invaluable historical knowledge of the plant far beyond what any industrial demolition contractor could identify on a walkthrough.

With the facility teams’ oversight, our industrial demolition contractors can ensure a much more streamlined process that reduces the risk of undiscovered deposits of ash, coal, or other waste. Total Wrecking is proud and excited to offer their nationwide demolition expertise to carry out the work, but ultimately the responsibility lies with the plant owner to provide all of the historical resources necessary.

Total Wrecking REMEDIATION & WASTE REMOVAL

REMEDIATION & WASTE REMOVAL

Environmental remediation, universal waste, chemical removals, and hazardous material removals usually take place before the demolition but can sometimes take place concurrently. Our remediative measures involve the closure of coal fields, on-site landfills, and ash ponds, as well as the careful relocation of waste products to specific landfills.

We’ll also clear lines, piping, and tanks, particularly those containing amonias or acids. Universal waste such as bulbs, refrigerants, mercury switches, and ballasts will be removed. Asbestos, PCBs, and PCB-containing equipment will be handled either by our own subcontractors or others who are specialized in handling these unique and highly-dangerous materials.

ASSET RECOVERY

Like environmental remediation and waste removal, asset recovery can either be completed before the demolition or concurrently. This process involves the identification of reusable parts and pieces of equipment within the facility or power plant. The most common assets include valves, generators, control panels, vessels, vibration monitoring equipment, tanks, and pumps.

Total Wrecking is renowned for the thoroughness of its asset recovery. Identifying recyclable assets rather than scrapping them can often triple their value.

DEMOLITION & WASTE MANAGEMENT

Demolition and waste management go hand-in-hand. Afterall, a building’s construction and waste streams will ultimately determine how it will be demolished. Keeping the building’s various wastes separated from the demolition is crucial.

Throughout the process, our industrial demolition contractors are constantly recycling and making reusable materials out of brick and concrete. Minimizing waste is not only in the best interest of the environment and the surrounding communities, it also has a positive effect on everyone’s bottom line and ensures the long-term safety of nearby residents.

CLOSEOUT

The day we become your industrial demolition contractor in Richmond, Virginia is the day we begin working towards project closeout. We have maintained diligent, detailed, and comprehensive records of every single task performed over the lifetime of your project, offering power plant owners a complete record of their final product.

We’ll also do a final walkthrough to discuss any potential loose ends and ensure all equipment and facility support is complete before closing out permits. Lastly, we’ll have a ceremonial event to recognize everyone involved as well as the amazing community members we serve.
