A TRUSTED LEADER IN POWER PLANT DEMOLITION
TOTAL SAFETY & ENVIRONMENTAL
At Total Wrecking, we take safety and environmental considerations very seriously and understand the potential risks of power plant demolition. We take every precaution to protect our workers and the environment. We are equally committed to minimizing the environmental impact of our work and employ the latest equipment and techniques to reduce waste, recycle materials, and recover assets at every phase of the project. We work closely with environmental agencies to ensure that all of our work complies with regulatory requirements, and we are constantly seeking ways to improve our environmental performance. Our project examples demonstrate our unique approach to power plant demolition. We take a customized approach to each project, tailoring our services to meet the specific needs and challenges of the project. Our team of experts has experience with a wide range of power plant demolition projects, and we have the resources and expertise to handle any project, no matter how complex, large, or surgical. At Total Wrecking, we are committed to providing the highest quality power plant demolition services.

HOW WE DO IT
Most importantly, our steadfast dedication to safety and efficiency means that even power plant demolition, the most complex and large-scale demolition projects, are completed on time and on budget. That’s integrity, efficiency, and experience you can rely on, no matter how big the project.
ENVIRONMENTAL REMEDIATION
Power plants always leave a laundry list of hazardous materials, notably asbestos, lead, ponds, and PCBs. That’s why TWE employs a team of fully-certified environmental remediation experts trained to identify and safely remove these materials in adherence with all federal, state, and local regulations. Advanced, safety-first techniques and proprietary equipment prevent the release of harmful substances into the environment.
Total Wrecking & Environmental also works closely with environmental agencies to ensure that all remediation efforts are in full compliance. Just recently, in Kentucky, we worked directly with the Army Corps of Engineers to contain and remediate contaminated water at a power plant situated 200 feet away from the raging Ohio River.

ASBESTOS ABATEMENT
Asbestos was a commonly used material in power plants through the 1980s, which is why it’s so often found within the insulation, pipes, and other equipment of older power plants. Asbestos is one of the most harmful elements found in power plants and requires a deeply experienced team of dedicated professionals.
Total Wrecking’s asbestos abatement services are designed to remove this toxic material safely and efficiently by strictly adhering to pre-approved plans based on state and federal guidelines and regulations. Nothing is more important than community members’ safety and the surrounding environment’s health, so we deploy cutting-edge techniques and equipment to deal with asbestos top-to-bottom.

ASSET RECOVERY
Power plants often contain valuable equipment and materials that can be salvaged and reused. Most of our power plant demolition projects result in 98% of all materials being recovered, recycled, or reused, often to the financial benefit of the power plant owner.
Recycling helps the environment and your wallet, so our dedicated project managers will work closely with your team to identify and recover all valuable assets, maximizing your return on investment. We’ve perfected the art of salvaging a wide range of materials, from electrical components to metal scrap, and have the international resources and networks to handle any project, no matter the complexity.

RECYCLING
It’s even in our name! Total Wrecking & Environmental is wholly committed to reducing waste and promoting sustainability. We have a robust recycling program designed to recycle as much of the materials from the demolition process as possible. Conversely, waste removal is more environmentally burdensome and costly because of the sensitive relocation and segregation of materials. Trust a contractor who will value every component (and related dollar) on your power plant.

WASTE MANAGEMENT
Demolition projects generate a significant amount of waste, and managing that waste is critical to ensure the environment (and nearby residents) remains safe and healthy. Our waste management services are designed to ensure that all waste is properly collected, quarantined, segregated, and relocated to dedicated sites per all federal, state, and local regulations. We’ll work closely with certified waste disposal facilities to ensure that all waste is handled safely and efficiently, keeping contamination risk at zero along the way.
Power plants, especially older ones, always contain various hazardous materials that require specialized removal and disposal techniques. Our team of experts is trained to safely remove and dispose of hazardous waste that keeps our demolition personnel, your power plant professionals, community members, and planet earth safe. Dedicated landfills, certified environmental remediation and asbestos abatement specialists , specialized vehicles, and PPE are just a few ways we ensure the messy side of power plant demolition is handled gracefully.

A HISTORY OF SUCCESS
One example of a successful power plant demolition project completed by Total Wrecking is the expansive LG&E project in Louisville, Kentucky. This coal-fired power plant was in operation from 1954 until its decommissioning in 2015 and involved extensive planning and coordination among the demolition team, engineers, environmental specialists, and the Army Corps of Engineers.
Total Wrecking utilized specialized demolition equipment, including high-reach excavators and hydraulic shears, to safely and efficiently demolish turbine units that extended deep below the surface. The demolition process was completed in multiple phases, with careful consideration given to removing underground asbestos that threatened to contaminate water intrusion while demo divers worked 50 feet underground.
Another successful project completed by Total Wrecking was the Lakeland McIntosh Power Plant in Florida. This demolition project was particularly ambitious, as it involved the removal of an entire power generation facility, including multiple boilers, turbines, and auxiliary structures. Most recently in early March TWE oversaw the implosion of a 225-foot fossil fuel-fired boiler unit. Before that on January 14th, selected press, community leaders, and project managers alike gathered for the first implosion phase of the Lakeland power plant project by felling the 260-foot stack and 90-foot Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) unit.
This project is unprecedented in scope and complexity, requiring a tremendous amount of resources, specialized crew members, and surgical planning to ensure the demolition is completed safely and on-time, especially considering this project is situated within an active power facility and has new construction to follow.
Overall, these projects demonstrate Total Wrecking’s expertise in power plant demolition and their commitment to safety and environmental protection. By utilizing a “total” approach to demolition planning and execution, Total Wrecking can successfully complete complex demolition projects while minimizing environmental impact and ensuring the safety of their team and the surrounding community.
